Introducing Taanbaan: Taanbaan as a label was initiated by Rta Kapur Chishti, a recognised textile scholar, in 2010, to continue the revival and regeneration of the ancient Indian craft of hand spinning and hand weaving
Co-author and editor of the ‘Saris of India’ volumes as well as ‘Handcrafted Indian Textiles -Tradition and Beyond’, she has been consistently involved with research and development of hand spun - handloom textiles. She is also the founder of the “Sari School” which produces saris & organizes workshops & private classes for those who wish to learn the wonders of this unstitched garment.
Why we love Taanbaan: Taanbaan offers an exclusive variety of indigenous organic cottons and low twist silks using hand spun yarns on the desi/ traditional charkha/ spinning wheel and woven with the finest hand skills on handloom. The Taanbaan range includes saris, dupattas, scarves and fabrics for garments that are distinguished by their unique texture, a contemporary rendering of traditional skills.
I was fascinated with craft from my school days and later learned to spin and weave because of a program I initiated to teach children through the arts.
