Introducing Pankaja: Pankaja is a label created by Pankaja Sethi - a designer and wandering researcher by passion. Pankaja Sethi’s textile journey began with the pursuit of exploring weaves and vivid material cultures from Odisha. The language beyond visual patterns stimulated her to experiment with textile materials amongst weavers and Adivasis. Pankaja studied textile designing from National Institute of Fashion and Technology (NIFT), New Delhi and Social Anthropology from School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
Why we love Pankaja: Her textiles are hand-woven contemporary design stories in split weave (phodo kumbha), Bandha (ikat) and extra-weft brocade in organic cotton, home based hand spun tussar, silk and shades of natural dye… a confluence of vibrant and subtle shades of weaves. Her design collection interprets contemporary weaves, sharing her personal journey and experiences. She sustains several weavers, women artisans and Adivasi people through pankaja Design & Research-based Trust in Bhubaneswar.
I wanted to bring together a new dialogue between traditional Indian artisans and designers narrating stories of craft and people.
