Introducing Ghanshyam Sarode: Ghanshyam Sarode, a C.A. aspirant turned craft revivalist, has brought new life to Uppada saris by introducing the Dhakai Jamdani weaving technique in geometric and floral motifs. While he is best known for his pioneering efforts to revive the Uppada sari, the jewel in his portfolio remains the restored interlocking brocade Paithani, a traditional Maharashtrian royal weave worn today at weddings. His richly patterned cotton-silk and silk Uppadas are also much sought after festive and bridal wear.
Why we love Ghanshyam Sarode: He uses varied & intricate skills, weaves and textures with brilliant effect on traditional Indian saris such as Uppada Jamdanis, Brocade Paithanis, Gadwals, Venkatgiris, Khadis and Kalamkaris. His unique quality lies in modifying these traditional crafts for the modern consumer yet preserving the richness of the craft and tradition. Working with weavers across the country he combines the ethnic methods of dyeing and weaving with modern technology.
For a good weave, you need happy weavers.
